Naturopathic Principles and Therapies
Dr. Yana Rodye, MA (Ed.), ND

Dr. Yana completed a four-year Naturopathic degree program from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). Dr. Yana Rodye, N.D.She also holds the Master of Education degree from the State Pedagogical University in Russia. Her main professional experience lay in the pharmaceutical industry where she worked for a major multinational pharmaceutical company for over 4 years. This valuable experience led to developing further interest in medical science, healthcare and health promotion. In her quest for a professional program that would offer quality education in natural ways to preserve health, she felt herself at home at CCNM.

Dr. Yana embraces the use of all naturopathic modalities (nutrition and lifestyle counselling, homeopathy, botanical medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and physical medicine) alone or in conjunction with conventional medical treatment. Establishing proper diagnosis and treating the cause is the ultimate goal she thrives towards in her work with her patients. In her treatment approach, she strongly believes in following the therapeutic order as set forth by Jared Zeff,ND and Pamela Snider,ND:

  • Establish the conditions for health – in other words remove obstacles to attaining better health, most commonly: poor lifestyle and nutrition, \inadequate sleep, high stress levels, and mental emotional imbalances.
  • Stimulate the healing power of nature: the body’s innate ability to heal itself (for example, through strengthening the immune system).
  • Address weakened or damaged systems or organs, even when there is seemingly no link with the chief health concern.
  • Correct structural integrity. As the house will collapse when the foundation is weak, the body will not function properly without adequate skeletal and muscular support.
  • Address pathology: use specific natural substances, modalities, or interventions. Naturopathic Doctors use botanical medicine, nutraceuticals (high quality vitamins and minerals), physical medicine (ultrasound, micro-current treatment), among others.
  • Address pathology: use specific pharmacologic or synthetic substances. These usually suppress the symptoms without removing the cause of the dis-ease. They also might cause serious side effects that further weaken the body.
  • Suppress or surgically remove pathology as the last resort when everything else fails. In this case naturopathic doctors might provide supportive adjunct care to the conventional medical treatment, to increase the efficacy and reduce unwanted side effects.

Restoring health by focusing on the first 4 steps above is the primary objective of Naturopathic Medicine, rather than just treating pathology. However when specific health concerns need to be addressed naturopathic doctors offer safe and gentle approach by using natural substances with no or minimal side effects. Dr. Yana believes that following this concept will ensure positive long lasting results, which quick fixes cannot provide. It is a health journey that requires strong collaborative efforts from the patient and the practitioner, but the end results are highly rewarding for both. She is honoured to be a part of her patients’ journey towards better health.

Dr. Yana has a general family practice with focus on chronic health complaints. She has a special interest in skin health, nutrition and health promotion. She is keenly interested in Ayurveda, a 5000 year old system of traditional Indian medicine, and currently completing an advanced training course in Ayurvedic medicine. Outside of her work she enjoys spending time with her 8 year old son Avi and their 14 year old cat Zheka; taking lessons in classical singing and making her own home skin care products.
