Dr. Rachel Schwartzman, B.A., N.D., Doula
Rachel’s interest in Naturopathic Medicine began with her undergraduate degree from McMaster University in Anthropology and Indigenous studies. She later graduated
from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine’s four year post-graduate medical program. Part of Rachel’s clinical training included working at the Anishnawbe Health Center with the Aboriginal population and The Sherbourne Health Clinic treating HIV+ individuals.
She believes nutrition is the foundation to good health and preventative medicine. Rachel utilizes supplements, homeopathy, acupuncture, Chinese and western herbs and lifestyle counseling. She has a general family practice, where she treats patients from all ages, and treats conditions ranging from; digestive disturbances, skin complaints, allergies, arthritis, low energy, mood disorders, hormonal imbalances, depressed immune systems, auto-immune conditions, cardiovascular disease, weight management and chronic health complaints. She has a special interest in women’s health, fertility health, pregnancy and pediatrics.
Rachel received her Doula training through ALACE and later was privileged to apprentice one-on-one with a midwife. She continues to attend births as a Naturopathic Doula and cares for these women and babies during the post-natal period.
Rachel trained with Virginia Doran, M.Ac., L.Ac., LMT, to become certified in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, a technique designed to minimize the signs of aging by lifting the skin and reducing fine lines. She combines this procedure with custom treatment plans for each patient that includes skin care protocols.
Rachel has received certification from Harvard University’s Body-Mind-Medicine Institute. She educates her patient's on the benefits of breathing exercises and connects the mental and physical aspects of health and disease to each treatment plan.
Rachel feels it is important to be part of the community, by providing lectures in the community, and teaching classes at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. She continues to provide corporate lectures in York region.
When not working, Rachel spends her time with her husband, adorable 2 children, Aidan and Bella and their dog Dexter.
Rachel is a member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND), the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND) and is licensed with the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy-Naturopathy (BDDT-N).
